What If...?

This Monday’s Tea with Lady B asks the question we’ve all asked: What if? Let’s have tea! Cheers!

“Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Weather forecasting is one of the most sophisticated sciences we have. Satellites sweep the globe, radars pulse through clouds, supercomputers crunch data by the second. We even send hurricane hunters straight into the eye of a storm just to understand what it’s thinking. And still, even with all that brilliance and technology, hurricanes change their minds. One moment they’re drifting harmlessly out to sea; the next, they pivot and come roaring back.

That unpredictability makes me think about our own lives. We draft meticulous plans—career paths, relationships, timelines—and then life shifts, sometimes suddenly, sometimes gently, but always in its own way. I’ve made plans that seemed airtight… until life quietly turned the wheel on me. And many times, that unexpected turn was exactly what I needed.

So here’s the real question: if predictions fail so often, why do we hold them so tightly? Maybe it’s our way of feeling in control. Maybe we cling to expectations because uncertainty makes us uneasy.

And now, with artificial intelligence advancing at full speed, some believe AI will finally bring the certainty we crave. Every conversation I’ve had about AI ends with the same line: “In this age, anything is possible.”

But does that mean we stop planning? Not at all. Planning is not an attempt to control life—it’s our way of staying grounded while everything shifts around us. We prepare not just for tomorrow, but for the long, unexpected journey ahead.

Life will change its mind. It will turn back. It will veer sideways. It will move in ways we never forecast.

The real beauty isn’t in predicting every step—it’s in learning how to adjust our stride when the wind shifts.

And maybe the question worth asking yourself as you contemplate this “what if” question is this:

What if the unexpected turn is the very thing that leads you exactly where you’re meant to go?

*Tune in on Monday, November 24, 2025 for more Tea with Lady B. ~Cheers!
